Thanks for posting this--very cool! The slide show was a nice touch. Yeah, she definitely has a unique sound. I recommend this CD if you like her voice. (There may be better ones, but this is the only one I've got and I like it.) Listening to her version of "Gretchen Am Spinnrade" is bizarre, simply because I'm so used to hearing sopranos sing it! She takes it down an entire 4th to the key of a minor!! When I bought this, I had just started studying and was trying to listen to a lot of different people; I'm really glad now that I have it. What other contraltos do you like to listen to? I'd like to add more to my library.
You're welcome...I, too, thought that the clip was done so well and I loved seeing the photos of her while listening to that glorious voice! It never ceases to amaze me at the various colors that all of us have to our own individual voices! My short list of CD's which I listen to incessantly: Marilyn Horne, Susan Graham, Denyce Graves, Christa Ludwig (which my voice teacher made for me...such a nice man), Janet Baker and off and on...Angelika Kirchschlager. My teacher is kind of particular about who I listen to now because I'm such a great mimicker!...hehehehehe He says that that is good though just so long as you are mimicking someone with great technique and trying to figure out what makes it great and what you are feeling physically. Thank you for the CD suggestion...it is on my wish list...*smile*
